(also slow ;) ) [14:34] fabricius joined #tikiwiki [16:49] chibaguy_ joined #tikiwiki [17:52] jimbodoken joined #tikiwiki [18:14] fabricius joined #tikiwiki [18:16] zlinux joined #tikiwiki [18:27] Telesight joined #tikiwiki [19:10] mose just had to install a new tiki from peer pressure [19:11] mose that's a long time :) [19:14] fabricius joined #tikiwiki [19:17] jonnyb hi mose, how did i go? [19:17] jonnyb i/it [19:18] jonnyb (i went fine ;) ) [19:19] jonnyb actually i have to go, hope your tiki is happy, catch you another time... [19:21] mose :) [19:22] mose I just have to lurk around see what the hell happened in the past 10 years now [19:24] mose as I got a new job at bitnami, I tried their installer, that went smooth [19:57] zlinux joined #tikiwiki [20:08] fabricius1 joined #tikiwiki [20:12] jonnyb joined #tikiwiki [20:12] jonnyb joined #tikiwiki [20:13] jonnyb joined #tikiwiki [20:20] jonnyb joined #tikiwiki [20:52] jonnyb joined #tikiwiki [21:57] fabricius hi mose [21:57] mose heya [21:58] mose now maybe I will migrate my v0.9/0.10 tikis [21:58] mose hrum [21:58] fabricius I think I came to Tiki when you left the scene, so we never met; but heard a lot. Your name is still visible at a lot of places [21:58] fabricius huuu [21:58] mose yeah I had dirty fingers put them in many places [21:59] mose nice to meet you [21:59] mose and .. don't believe what people said of me it's all false [21:59] fabricius I just wrote an email to the devlist where I pointed out that with Tiki you can upgrade across a lot of versions and that the community likely will not change the policy behind that. [22:00] fabricius I heard only good things, respectively that people remember you with respect [22:00] mose yeah exactly [22:00] mose people always exagerate [22:00] mose memory creates embellished images [22:01] fabricius so you tell me not to believe you would be one of the good guys [22:01] fabricius or at least a nice guy [22:01] fabricius :) [22:01] mose I was just one guy [22:02] fabricius we all are just one guy or girl ... and still a community together [22:02] mose it survived the years, amazingly [22:03] mose and you still didn't migrate to git haha [22:03] fabricius survived without Tiki. hard to believe :) [22:03] mose that was already a topic 10 years ago [22:03] fabricius hehe [22:03] fabricius and it is still [22:03] mose that's crazy [22:04] fabricius I am happy that I learned to use svn after a while and now I have to learn a new thing ... errr since ... in ... anyway [22:04] mose the thing is the collaboration model. Tiki is built on access and trust, git/github is building on openess and lower trust [22:04] fabricius this belongs to Tiki aswell. in some aspects we are kind of reluctant [22:05] fabricius what is the difference between access and openess? [22:05] mose acess gives you power, openess only gives you opportunity [22:06] fabricius ah, I guess I understand what you mean [22:06] mose ie. diff between write right to commit on trunk vs anybody can do PR [22:06] fabricius apply to the three rules and get full commit access to the full repository based on trust [22:07] mose the commitment is higher [22:07] fabricius with access!? [22:07] mose yes [22:07] mose because there is more power, so there is a process to acquire it [22:07] mose there is no process to submit a PR [22:08] fabricius many devs argue about the committment of sourceforge. I think that is more of a reason than preferring one version system over another [22:08] mose yeah sourceforge kinda sucks [22:08] mose it does since 2001 [22:08] mose so that's not new [22:09] mose when they close-sourced [22:09] mose that made savanah and gna appear [22:09] fabricius sometimes changes are due to the amount of pain, sometime due to the timespan, when it never stops [22:09] mose change in open source always happen because indiviuals [22:10] mose talking is cheap [22:10] mose let's do or not do, the one that does win haha [22:10] mose migratign the scm is just a lot of work [22:11] mose I'm sure tiki would survive with a new paradigm of collaobration [22:11] mose it's just a different community activity [22:11] mose more time sorting out contributions [22:11] mose smaller core team [22:12] mose but there are various projects that still are cohesive after migrating to github [22:12] mose by enforcing some cluture [22:12] mose but hey [22:12] mose I know nothing [22:13] mose from the years that passed [22:13] mose from how the community evolved [22:13] mose I left php 10 years ago [22:13] mose went to java, puked, ended up to ruby [22:14] mose and node [22:14] fabricius I mean, I am not a coder, thus I trust the coders I know in person or collaborate with since long time. I enjoy to have commit access and ever so often be able to commit a small thing I see (and understand) and otherwise do different tasks. wether the (trusted and longknown) coders finally decide for git or svn - I do both. [22:15] mose seems there is much less people than long time ago [22:16] mose but they may be much more skilled, as time passed [22:17] fabricius I am not sure. I see that there are some coming and going and others staying since years. sadly we are kind of a niche product and not as renown as the big 3 (Woprdpress, Joomla, Drupal). [22:17] mose yeah [22:22] mose but it would have died if it had not its unique value [22:25] mose anyways, now that I have to maintain a tiki again, I will stay around [22:37] zlinux joined #tikiwiki [22:48] fabricius great to hear [22:48] fabricius and mose: you'll make it nice and responsive finally [22:51] mose hahaha [23:09] fabricius yeah, I assume you'll upgrade to 18 anyway and from 14 you are fully bootstrapped ;-) [23:55] Tiki|bot Recent Bug: - http://dev.tiki.org/item6583--session_protected-feature-is-broken-if-HTTPS-termination-happens-outside-of-PHP-s
