i/it
(i went fine ;) )
actually i have to go, hope your tiki is happy, catch you another time... mose: :)
I just have to lurk around see what the hell happened in the past 10 years now
as I got a new job at bitnami, I tried their installer, that went smooth zlinux: joined #tikiwiki fabricius1: joined #tikiwiki jonnyb: joined #tikiwiki

now maybe I will migrate my v0.9/0.10 tikis
hrum fabricius: I think I came to Tiki when you left the scene, so we never met; but heard a lot. Your name is still visible at a lot of places
huuu mose: yeah I had dirty fingers put them in many places
nice to meet you
and .. don't believe what people said of me it's all false fabricius: I just wrote an email to the devlist where I pointed out that with Tiki you can upgrade across a lot of versions and that the community likely will not change the policy behind that.
I heard only good things, respectively that people remember you with respect mose: yeah exactly
people always exagerate
memory creates embellished images fabricius: so you tell me not to believe you would be one of the good guys
or at least a nice guy
:) mose: I was just one guy fabricius: we all are just one guy or girl ... and still a community together mose: it survived the years, amazingly
and you still didn't migrate to git haha fabricius: survived without Tiki. hard to believe :) mose: that was already a topic 10 years ago fabricius: hehe
and it is still mose: that's crazy fabricius: I am happy that I learned to use svn after a while and now I have to learn a new thing ... errr since ... in ... anyway mose: the thing is the collaboration model. Tiki is built on access and trust, git/github is building on openess and lower trust fabricius: this belongs to Tiki aswell. in some aspects we are kind of reluctant
what is the difference between access and openess? mose: acess gives you power, openess only gives you opportunity fabricius: ah, I guess I understand what you mean mose: ie. diff between write right to commit on trunk vs anybody can do PR fabricius: apply to the three rules and get full commit access to the full repository based on trust mose: the commitment is higher fabricius: with access!? mose: yes
because there is more power, so there is a process to acquire it
there is no process to submit a PR fabricius: many devs argue about the committment of sourceforge. I think that is more of a reason than preferring one version system over another mose: yeah sourceforge kinda sucks
it does since 2001
so that's not new
when they close-sourced
that made savanah and gna appear fabricius: sometimes changes are due to the amount of pain, sometime due to the timespan, when it never stops mose: change in open source always happen because indiviuals
talking is cheap
let's do or not do, the one that does win haha
migratign the scm is just a lot of work
I'm sure tiki would survive with a new paradigm of collaobration
it's just a different community activity
more time sorting out contributions
smaller core team
but there are various projects that still are cohesive after migrating to github
by enforcing some cluture
but hey
I know nothing
from the years that passed
from how the community evolved
I left php 10 years ago
went to java, puked, ended up to ruby
and node fabricius: I mean, I am not a coder, thus I trust the coders I know in person or collaborate with since long time. I enjoy to have commit access and ever so often be able to commit a small thing I see (and understand) and otherwise do different tasks. wether the (trusted and longknown) coders finally decide for git or svn - I do both. mose: seems there is much less people than long time ago
but they may be much more skilled, as time passed fabricius: I am not sure. I see that there are some coming and going and others staying since years. sadly we are kind of a niche product and not as renown as the big 3 (Woprdpress, Joomla, Drupal). mose: yeah
but it would have died if it had not its unique value
anyways, now that I have to maintain a tiki again, I will stay around zlinux: joined #tikiwiki fabricius: great to hear
and mose: you'll make it nice and responsive finally mose: hahaha fabricius: yeah, I assume you'll upgrade to 18 anyway and from 14 you are fully bootstrapped ;-) Tiki|bot: Recent Bug: - http://dev.tiki.org/item6583--session_protected-feature-is-broken-if-HTTPS-termination-happens-outside-of-PHP-s
