chibaguyI have to give px widths to divs in wikitext (such as for .codelisting) now in *litecss themes because Firefox 3 seems to calculate % widths wrong. They aren't 90% or whatever of the parent div, they are much wider, causing a scrollbar. Is there a hack to give FF3 its own css?
IE7 does something similar.
For now I'm giving pixel widths to things like div.codelisting.... :-|

[07:34]
chibaguyI don't know if *litecss theme's floated divs and negative margins, etc., throws off calculations of widths for divs in there. But with FF2 there can be a 90% div in wikitext and it stays within the space. FF3 makes the div way wide.
I need to make a simple html demo and see what happens.
A concern is that standard divs can be given px widths easily enough in the stylesheet, but it'll be bad if users' wikiplugin div width=90% make long horizontal scrollbars.

..... (idle for 22mn)
chibaguyDivs made with DIV plugin and given 90% width or codelisting class behave ok, no page streching. The problem with {CODE()}{CODE} may be its pre tags or something.
No, problem is also div.codelisting.
[08:05]
***loick has joined #tikiwiki [08:14]
chibaguyReducing the width to, like, 30% makes the overflow: auto div narrow enough to be about 400px wide -- but the whole page still is stretched wide and has a scrollbar, widened by something not visible.
Sorry for the monolog. I'm off now. :-)

The problem with using it as an ordinary user is some things, such as uploading, won't work because the Apache web server doesn't have permissions. Had to grant it permission.

SEWilco2http://mydom/mydom/index.html by default.
The setup.sh should fix permissions.
There also is an 'sudo sh htaccess.sh' available if you want the _htaccess rewriting rules.

haroldSEWilco2: hm ok, I was wondering if ther is is some configuration setting one can change to permit this [17:28]
maskiepopSEWilco2: let me see: here's how i proceed: a) create /etc/hosts dir b) set up the 127.0.0.1 mydom in /etc/hosts c) execute sudo setup.sh www-data www-data . i thought i'd follow something that is close enough to what it will be eventually. maybe it's more work now. but probably the safe thing for a beginner? [17:28]
SEWilco2maskiepop: For a beginner, forget the hosts stuff [17:29]
haroldHey one other thing - does anyone know when TikiWiki 2.0 will be out of Beta stage? [17:29]
SEWilco2maskiepop: Just put the TW stuff in a directory and access it with whatever URL your webserver wants. Probably http://localhost/mydir/ if you're using /var/www/mydir
maskiepop: For testing I've even used http://myserver/~myaccount/testdir/tikiwiki-1.9.11/
maskiepop: If you decide to use TikiWiki you can later figure out the Apache stuff to use a different URL.
maskiepop: If you use .htaccess you may have to edit a couple of lines with the actual directory if you're not configuring Apache. For testing you might omit the htaccess.sh stuff.
[17:30]
maskiepopSEWilco2: meaning tw is already installed by just unpacking? and I just worry about the permissions? do i have all the directories already? or do I have to build them? [17:33]
SEWilco2maskiepop: TW runs in the directory where you expand it. The setup.sh is just to set the permissions of the directories and files so the web server can better access them. [17:34]

DarkbeeHello all, I had a question about storing files in the database versus in a directory. Is this purely down to personal preference and/or server configuration limitations? Or would one be preferred over the other? [18:41]
SEWilco2I asked a similar question yesterday with no answer, because file batch upload warns "Please do not use this feature to upload data into the database. " without explanation. [18:43]
DarkbeeI'm assuming in general that storing files in a database, kinda defeats the purpose of having a database, but I'm not an expert on that
particuarly large files
but I could be wrong
[18:45]
sylvieg1http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=File%20Gallery%20Config&structure=Documentation [18:45]
SEWilco2Well, a file system is a database for files. But one has to worry about name conflicts. [18:46]
sylvieg1the criteria is if you have large files [18:46]
DarkbeeThanks sylvieg1.. I did read that before
define large
>10mb?
>5mb?
[18:46]
sylvieg1depends on php.ini setting for large file upload too [18:47]
Darkbeeyes...but a filesystem is a specific kind of database with a specific purpose in mind.
..... is a good answer :)
so in other words the performance of the database shouldn't suffer too greatly, if at all, even if you're uploading 5mb files?
[18:47]
sylvieg1sylvieg1 uses only directories...
but I have always ssh access on my servers
[18:48]
DarkbeeDarkbee is of the opinion that if directories are good enough for the devs then they are good enough for him
Darkbee will go check what he can and can't do on his server
I have shared hosting so I suspect there will be some limitations
[18:48]
***Caarrie has joined #tikiwiki [18:50]
DarkbeeDirectories would seem to make the most sense to me UNLESS you're uploading mainly text files and then you can use the functions of the database for text searching but beyond that I can't imagine that it makes a lot of sense to store binary objects in the DB... just my personal opinion. luciashbro, i don't know but i think it works fine at your site (see my last edit on the brainstorming page)
amette: on the cv page, do you have these links as [URL|link name|nocache] ?
[23:32]
ametteI have there [URL|link name|noref|nocache] [23:33]
luciash(i can't really tell as i can't see the history/source)
ah, ok, well...
[23:33]
amette*g*
it is one hell of a dumb regression, yes... :P
[23:34]
luciashdid you clean your tiki cache ? [23:35]
amettenope - mom [23:35]
SEWilco2sylvieg1: Yup, my sefurl mod test is working. Now I have to grind through all the object types and templates. [23:35]
amettedone - still not better
lemme edit and save the page
[23:35]
luciashi think you have to clean the Wiki cache
Admin -> Wiki cache :(
[23:36]
SEWilco2sylvieg1: I stripped the variable modifier to just call sefurl($page,$type), and put all the $type logic in sefurl(). [23:36]
ametteluciash: I have there globally "0 (no cache)" [23:36]
luciashbecause in the tikilib source i spotted the condition relies on "prefs['cachepages'] == 'y' && this->is_cached(link)"... [23:37]
ametteok, so it's definitely the case here
I have no global cache and no individual cache either
*not the case
[23:37]
***maskiepop has quit IRC ("CGI:IRC (EOF)") [23:38]
luciashamette: i mean the "Admin" -> "Wiki cache" [23:38]
ametteyeah, only external URLs there either
aaaaaaaah, wait - WHAT!?!?!?
[23:38]
luciashamette: not "Admin" -> "Wiki" [23:39]
ametteno, no - I'm really, totally and absolutely _NOT_ going to clear that one for good! I mean: that's against all what I used it for!! [23:39]
luciashbut still... yep... that's really weird why should it appear now cached suddenly if you haven't cached them before... [23:40]
ametteand actually - I put my links in the wiki-page as [http|url name|noref|nocache] and everything was good again - now there is "(cache)" again - so it is another problem for sure!
yup, right!
ok, resaving the page didn't help either...
resaving with changes in the page don't help either
links look exactly like this: [http://www.bayreuth.de|Bayreuth|noref|nocache]
aaah - removing Bayreuth from the "Admin -> Wiki Cache" helps....
... fuck! :(
[23:40]
luciashwth does this work for me ? -> [http://tikiwiki.org/Home|tw.o|noref|nocache] [23:45]
ametteso, uhm, sorry, but: back to the drawing board? ;)
because it is the first call to it and it doesn't get cached then and then it doesn't fetch nothing from the cache...
... it seems like you made bad things worse... :P
( but again, sorry - I might be capable of trial-and-erroring the problem down now - but I can't read those regexes now... )
before your fix, it didn not fetch the stuff from the cache, even if it was in there - but now, it doesn't cache it with correct syntax, BUT if it is in the cache, it still fetches it... (blind, but educated guess)
[23:45]
luciashbut wth ? when i change it to [http://tikiwiki.org/Home|tw.o|noref] then i get it properly cached here so it seems to work properly...
and when i change back it is not cached again
[23:49]
ametteyep, that works for me, too - but not both ways actually!!
when I put |nocache] in again - it is still cached
see the Bayreuth example
luciash: I set view_history/source for you
[23:50]
luciashthanks, i'll have a look
can you edit and preview the page ?
[23:52]
ametteI hope so... ;) [23:54]
luciashmaybe you could use the search and replace to replace the "|noref", then preview, then add the "|noref" before the "|nocache" again and preview again ? [23:57]
ametteyup, couple of minutes, just on the phone.... [23:59]
