marclaportelook at bottom: Last update from SVN (6.0beta1): Monday 18 October, 2010 03:21:27 UTC - REV 30088
chineseEdit: this is often related to the database not being in UTF-8
[04:11]
sparrWook
well, before I dive in...
I'm setting up a wiki for my roommates to use for roommate organization stuff. House rules, shopping list, guests and party planning, etc. I'd like wiki pages intermingled with forum-like pages (that aren't necessarily Discussion Pages for other pages, like mediawiki does)
that is, I'd like a standalone Discussion page (or many of them)
[04:11]
marclaportechineseEdit : can you test on http://tiki.org/test ? [04:13]
chineseEditthanks, marclaporte. I've used utf-8 in tiki. the database is LAMP under ubuntu 10.04, all in the defaults. [04:13]

I'm lost in trying to follow the actual code that's being executed for $this->query. But I confirm that this works: [18:33]

jonnybi've not often come across tiki databases over 100MB
can you identify one record that's really big?
(looks like it's between 80 and 90! :) )

jonnybso which file and line is that?

rodrigo_sampaioHi luciash! I knew you would ask me that ;) [19:30]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: sorry, maybe i just misunderstood :) [19:30]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: no problem. now you don't need to import a language to the database to be able to edit it's strings
luciash: that is why I removed the feature
luciash: if you go to tiki-edit_languages.php you can edit the translations and store them in the database without having to import first
[19:30]
luciashah, so one just overwrites language.php ?
and it gets automatically updated in db ?
when storing in db
[19:31]
clementejonnyb: I would very happily try the same in my browsers without JavaScript, but tikiwiki doesn't work in plain and simple HTML :-(
At least not the „edit“ button
[19:32]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: yes I guess (not sure if I understood what you mean)
luciash: before if you go to tiki-edit_languages.php you were unable to edit translation for a particular language before importing all its translations to the database
[19:32]
clemente<a title="Edit this page" href="#main" onclick=" loadComponent('tiki-editpage.php?page=WishList' … Damn web 2.0, I want my web 1.0 back! [19:33]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: this is not necessary anymore
luciash: you can translate any string from language.php (that is not commented) directly and save it to the database. strings in the database override strings in language.php
[19:33]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: so if i edited via interactive translation on one site (strong in db right ?) and export to language.php and want to use the same translations on another site, where i also use db for translation but haven't translated as much there, i just do overwrite the language.php there and it gets updated in db there too ?
s/strong in db/storing in db/
"strings in the database override strings in language.php" - that is what i am worried about... how do i override the ones in db with the better translations from language.php i just got ?
without import feature
[19:34]
jonnybclemente: thanks for adding the bug, despite the bugs [19:38]

jonnybthat's why it would be good to fix it if poss [19:39]
clementeluciash: is there a switch to switch it off globally on WWW? I need other to fix HTTP [19:40]
luciashjonnyb: do u think we should switch it off there ?
clemente: lol
[19:40]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: why you don't use custom.php for that? [19:40]
jonnybno, fix it :) [19:40]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: I mean you translate in one site on the database
luciash: than export those translations to a custom.php file and copy this file to the other site
luciash: you have the advantage of keeping your custom translations as custom without merging them with the official Tiki translations
luciash: makes sense?
[19:40]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: use case - people translate something on my site willing to contribute to Tiki... but then new Tiki is released and the translations in language.php are far better there so i want to use them
rodrigo_sampaio: and btw, can interactive translation save to custom.php language file ?
[19:41]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: in this use case how import language.php to database can help you? [19:42]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: it can help me because i need to override the bullshit in db [19:43]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: is not that interactive translation can save to custom.php. interactive translation is one of the ways to store translations in the database. and you can export database translations to a custom.php (a new file is generated for you to download) [19:43]
luciashjonnyb: how to fix Ajax links for users with JS off ? [19:44]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: but if you use import language.php for that it is the same as removing all your database translations and using language.php directly, no?
luciash: so maybe what you need in this use case is a way to remove all the translations from the database? (there is already a way to remove translation from the database but it is one by one)
[19:44]
jonnybluciash: it should revert to all <noscript> behaviour then [19:45]
clementeluciash: just use a sensible href for all <a>s [19:46]
jonnybluciash: you usually have to log out then back in to see the difference [19:46]
clementehref="page.html" ← one page links to another pages; that's the key concept of hypertext
href="#nowhere" ← WWW is broken
[19:46]
jonnybah, clemente - do you have js off? (maybe the new preview doesn't have no-js fallback... yet) [19:47]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: you now how it works now when you rewrote it ;) i am just asking, because you said the strings in db override language.php, and i don't know how to clean the db translation strings out easily, without the import feature now [19:47]
clementeno, with a normal Firefox with no modifications I get the same error [19:47]
luciashjust switch off use db for translations and it get cleared ? [19:47]
clementeI will try with more browsers [19:48]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: I'm glad you are asking because you always come with a use case I haven't thought before ;) [19:48]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: so when i switch it on again, i will see the fresh new translations from language.php and can continue use it ?
rodrigo_sampaio: heheh, sorry to cause you headaches
[19:48]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: right now there is no user friendly way to remove all the translations from the database (you can go to mysql and type "delete from tiki_language;" :P). if this is needed the best would be to add this feature instead of keeping import language.php for doing that [19:49]
luciashclemente: yeah, i don't know who invented the a href="#main" when Ajax is on in Tiki (what is it good for)
rodrigo_sampaio: yeah, there is always workaround to go and modify the db directly, but definitely not user (admin) friendly
[19:49]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: I will add a button to delete all the strings from the database
:)
[19:51]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: cool :) [19:52]
clementejonnyb: strange, with Konqueror (this time with k), it works [19:52]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: having a separate way to remove all the strings from the database, do you see another reason for using import language.php to the database? :P [19:53]
jonnybKurious... [19:53]

ops
luciash: you mean merge translations from database to language.php?
luciash: this button exist ;)
luciash: it is very simple, but exist
[19:54]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: lol, i mean merge translations from received language.php to the current Tiki (database) [19:55]
jonnybclemente: so your firefox is iceweasel? (sorry, another one i don't test for) [19:55]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: no idea what to do with conflicts though ;) [19:55]
rodrigo_sampaioluciash: :) [19:55]
clementejonnyb: yes, but it's a name change. But you shouldn't „test“ for browser names, but for features: if it has getElementById, do this, else this…
In addition, „Firefox“ appears at the userAgent
[19:56]
luciashrodrigo_sampaio: it would definitely allow better collaborative translating of Tiki though i think when you could receive language.php from contributors, go to i18n.tiki.org, upload that file via browser and merge the new translations easily like that
then just export for svn commit as you do now
